Careful cleaning of electronics and appliances exposed to smoke, soot or moisture, with advice on what is safe to use.
Soot and moisture are hard on electronics. Soot can be conductive and acidic, and humidity corrodes circuit boards. Plugging in a damaged device can cause permanent damage or a hazard.
We clean the exterior and, for suitable items, the interior with anti-static methods. We tell you which items should be checked by a repair technician before use, and which are not worth saving. Please do not power on affected devices. Electronics are often among the most valuable items in a home, and they are also among the most vulnerable to soot and moisture. We keep them powered down, document the make and model for your records and clean them on an anti-static surface with proper tools. Where internal cleaning is needed, we work with qualified repair technicians and manufacturers when manufacturer coverage or specialized procedures apply.
A device that was wet or covered in soot can short out. Leave it unplugged until it is cleaned and checked.
We use brushes, vacuums and cleaners made for electronics, with static control.
For valuable or critical devices, we recommend a technician test them after cleaning.
If your device still works safely, back up files before anything else. Do not power on questionable devices.
